Touchpix vs Darkroom Booth
Choose Darkroom Booth for a mature perpetual Windows workflow. Choose Touchpix for one product across five operating systems.
Darkroom Booth has a mature template system, AI effects, 360 and mirror-booth workflows, and a perpetual licence model that many Windows operators value. Touchpix adds iOS, Android, macOS and Linux support, unlimited devices and offline background removal that needs no internet connection. The right choice depends on whether Windows depth and perpetual licensing or broader platform and offline coverage matters more.
Touchpix vs Darkroom Booth in one paragraph: Darkroom Booth is a Windows desktop application sold as a US$295 perpetual licence that includes one year of updates and support, with US$95/year maintenance thereafter (the software keeps running if maintenance lapses). It supports Darkroom AI — including AI Face Swap — plus 360 and mirror-booth workflows, green screen, surveys, quizzes and broad capture options, and Darkroom offers a genuine free trial of it. Darkroom also sells a separate Booth for iPad product. Touchpix is a subscription platform starting at US$439.90/year (billed annually) in the captured USD view, running on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux with unlimited devices and offline background removal. Choose Darkroom for perpetual Windows depth; choose Touchpix for a mixed-platform fleet and internet-free workflows.

Detailed comparison
Both products offer AI, but their offline behaviour differs
Darkroom Booth 2025 and 2026 include Darkroom AI, with multiple AI models, preset AI effects, custom prompts and AI Face Swap — "place guests into themed templates for fun or immersive experiences". Darkroom's own knowledge base says the AI processing happens on a remote computer and therefore requires internet. Green screen is not required.
Touchpix includes:
- AI face replacement, with AI filters and scenes
- Photo AI as a capture mode, on every plan including the entry PhotoPass plan
- Automatic background removal for photo and video — with no green screen and no internet connection required
Both products can sell AI experiences. Touchpix's differentiator is that automatic background removal runs offline with no internet needed; Darkroom's AI processing requires connectivity.

Both products support 360 and mirror-booth workflows
Darkroom's official knowledge base includes dedicated 360 Booth and Mirror Booth sections. Its 360 documentation covers video scripts, GoPro integration, OrcaVue and sample spin templates; its mirror documentation includes setup guidance and sample templates.
Touchpix also includes both:
- 360 photo booth with built-in Bluetooth that triggers the spinner automatically, plus slow motion, speed control, video, boomerang and GIF (video modes from the MultiPass plan, US$879.99/year billed annually), working with GoPro 7–13, Canon, Nikon, Sony, iPhone, iPad and Android cameras
- Mirror booth with 7 built-in themes, plus text, stickers and drawing
The desktop product runs on Windows, and Darkroom also sells an iPad product
Darkroom Booth desktop is a Windows program. Darkroom's product page says Booth "will run on a computer, all-in-one or tablet with Windows OS", so a Windows tablet build is possible — but every station still needs Windows hardware, and the desktop licence does not cover any other operating system. Darkroom also sells a separate Booth for iPad subscription at US$29.99/month or about US$299/year — note that Darkroom's pricing page lists US$299/year while its Booth for iPad product page lists US$299.99, so confirm the current figure at purchase — with a seven-day trial. Darkroom does not publish Android, macOS or Linux versions of the booth product.
That means standardising your fleet on Windows hardware for every desktop station, and licensing the iPad product separately if you also want an Apple tablet booth.
Touchpix runs the same events on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux — one subscription, unlimited devices. Use a Windows laptop for the tethered DSLR station if that's what you like, an Android tablet for the roaming booth, a Raspberry Pi for the permanent install in a bar.
Switching to Touchpix
- Use the current US$295 full-licence and US$95/year maintenance figures together when calculating long-term cost — and re-verify the US$195 upgrade price, which Darkroom flagged for an increase on 1 March 2026.
- Start a 14-day Touchpix trial (a MultiPass trial licence) and select the plan for your active-event count — remembering that video, slow motion and boomerang start at MultiPass, surveys at Pro and mosaic at Enterprise.
- Rebuild one representative Darkroom template and workflow in the Online Designer.
- Check specialist hardware, including coin-op or arcade controls, before replacing a production setup.
- Run a complete test event across every required booth mode and operating system.
