The dslrBooth problem nobody mentions — you need two subscriptions

Here is how dslrBooth's product line actually works:

• Want a Windows booth? That's dslrBooth / LumaBooth for Windows — US$17/month billed annually.
• Want an iPad booth? That's a different product — LumaBooth for Apple — US$18/month billed annually via fotoshare.co, US$20/month through the App Store, or US$19.99/month month-to-month. The App Store also lists an annual "Full Access" option at US$199.99.
• Want a sharing station? That's LumaShare — around US$8/month (their pricing page says US$7.99/month, their product page says US$8.99; figures checked 28 July 2026). It runs on iPad, iPhone, Mac and Android.
• Want hashtag printing? That's HashPrinter — another US$25/month.

Four products. Four subscriptions. Four things to keep updated, and four places to configure the same overlay.

Touchpix is one licence. It runs on Windows, Android, iOS, macOS and Linux. Sharing-station mode is built in. Your overlays live in one Online Designer and work everywhere.

What the three-product stack actually costs — and why we still think it's the wrong buy

Let's be straight about the money, because the honest version of this argument is more useful to you than the flattering one.

An operator running a Windows DSLR booth, an iPad booth and a sharing station subscribes to three products:

Do the arithmetic yourself: US$17 + US$18 + US$8 is about US$43 a month, and twelve months at that rate is roughly US$516 a year. That yearly figure is our sum of their published monthly rates, not a price they advertise — the one annual figure they do publish is the App Store's US$199.99 "Full Access" option for the Apple app. Touchpix MultiPass is US$879.99 on yearly billing in the USD view; billed monthly it is US$122.08. So yes — on price alone, the dslrBooth stack is the cheaper of the two. Roughly US$516 a year against US$879.99. Anyone telling you otherwise is doing arithmetic you can check in thirty seconds.

Here is what the extra buys, and why operators still move:

• One licence instead of three. One renewal date, one payment method, one place where things can lapse the week before a wedding season.
• Five operating systems, not two. Windows, Android, iOS, macOS and Linux — including Android and Linux hardware that the dslrBooth family does not cover with a booth app at any price.
• Unlimited devices on every plan. dslrBooth includes the first two devices per product. Touchpix limits active events (2, 4, 8 or 12 depending on plan), not devices, and one active event can run across as many devices as you like.
• The sharing station is not a separate SKU. It's a mode in the same app, on the same licence.
• One overlay library. Build a design once in the Online Designer; it appears on every platform, instead of being rebuilt in each product.
• AI with no per-image meter. Photo AI is included from PhotoPass upward. dslrBooth's AI Portraits are billed at US$0.10 per portrait after 20 free transformations, and need an internet connection — which is a real cost line at a 400-guest event, and a real risk in a venue basement.

That is the trade: you pay more per year, and you stop running a stack. If your business is one Windows booth and it is going to stay one Windows booth, the maths does not favour switching, and we would rather you knew that from us.

dslrBooth has no Android booth app. Touchpix does.

dslrBooth ships Booth CoPilot for Android and Apple — but read what it does: it is a remote control for a booth running on Windows. It is not a booth. You cannot put an Android tablet in a shell and run an event from it.

Touchpix runs a full photo booth on Android — capture, filters, overlays, AI, background removal, sharing, the lot. That opens up hardware that is a fraction of the cost of an iPad or a Windows mini-PC.

If your growth plan involves building more booths without buying more Apple and Intel hardware, this is the entire ballgame.

Offline: both work, but not in the same way

Give dslrBooth its due here, because a lot of comparison pages get this wrong. dslrBooth publishes online and offline sharing: "Share using email, sms, AirDrop, and offline QR code when you don't have an internet connection." Green screen and chroma key are published Windows features too, though they do not publish how those run without a connection. A dead venue Wi-Fi is not a dead dslrBooth booth.

The Touchpix difference is what happens on the guest's phone. Scanpix 2 delivers photos directly to Apple and Android guests with no internet at all — a peer-to-peer handoff rather than a queued send, and it works across both mobile ecosystems from the same booth. (Scanpix 2 covers Apple and Android; Windows and Linux booths use the standard sharing methods.) Touchpix also runs automatic background removal offline — no internet needed, so the AI look-and-feel doesn't disappear when the venue's uplink does.

Compare device rules before adding a third station

dslrBooth includes the first two devices per product. Touchpix includes unlimited devices; plans allow 2, 4, 8 or 12 active events, and the same event can run on multiple devices simultaneously.

The third booth is where most operators start actually making money. With Touchpix it costs nothing extra. Everywhere else, it's a new line on the invoice.
