Livepix (Touchpix for PC)

How to Flash Livepix to a USB Stick

Livepix allows you to run Touchpix directly from a USB stick on any PC. This guide covers the preparation and initial setup to get your system running smoothly.

Prerequisites

  • A USB Stick: Minimum 128GB capacity. For best performance, use a USB 3.0 (or higher) drive.

  • Livepix Image File: Download here

  • Rufus: The tool used to flash the image. Download it at rufus.ie.

  • A Windows PC: Required for the flashing process.

Step 1: Flashing the Drive

  1. Connect your USB Stick: Insert your 128GB+ USB drive into your Windows PC.

  2. Open Rufus: Launch the rufus.exe file you downloaded.

  3. Select Device: Ensure your USB stick is selected under the “Device” dropdown.

  4. Select the ISO: Click the SELECT button and locate the Livepix image file.

  5. Set Persistent Partition: Locate the “Persistent partition size” slider and slide it to the maximum possible size. This is crucial for saving your event data and settings.

  6. Flash the Drive: Click START. Confirm the warning that all data on the USB will be erased.

  7. Wait: This process can take up to 30 minutes. Do not disconnect the drive until Rufus displays “READY.”

Step 2: Booting and Initial Setup

Once the flash is complete, keep the USB plugged in and restart your computer. As soon as the screen goes black and starts to turn back on, tap the Boot Menu Key (usually F11, F12, F8, or Esc) repeatedly until the boot list appears. Select the USB drive to start Livepix.

1. Connect to the Internet

Once Livepix boots, the most important first step is connecting to the internet to load your events.

  • On the homescreen, tap the Gear Icon (Settings).

  • Access the Wi-Fi settings to connect to your network.

2. Touchscreen & Orientation

Livepix features native touchscreen support, but the orientation may need adjustment depending on your monitor.

  • Orientation: If the screen is upside down or sideways, you can change the Orientation within the settings menu.

  • Calibration: If your touch registration feels off, use the Calibration Tool in the settings to align the touch points accurately.

Quick Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Boot Menu Issues: If Windows loads normally, you didn’t tap the boot key fast enough. Restart and try again before the Windows logo appears.

  • Fast Boot Interference: If you can’t access the boot menu, hold the Shift key while clicking Shut Down in Windows, then turn the PC back on. This performs a “Full Shutdown.”

  • Performance: Always plug your USB stick into a USB 3.0 port (usually blue inside). Using a USB 2.0 port (black) will result in slow performance and lag.
